Finances at The Well

At The Well we’re not afraid to talk about money. In fact, we get kind of excited when we do because money is one of the ways we get to bless others. We’re not oblivious to the fact that money and finances in a community setting can get messy and uncomfortable. But we believe that if we are going to be individuals and a community that are able to bless others, we better be transparent with the way we use our finances.

Because of this, we encourage each other to live as close to debt free as possible, have financial accountability with someone else in the church so that we can be free to live as generously as possible.

We take an offering every week during our worship gathering and we’re not really ashamed to do so. It’s an amazing blessing to come together and share in mission with our finances. Of course, this means that we are weekly held accountable to what our community is doing with our money. We know that if we aren’t living generously as a community, we won’t be cultivating very generous members.

While we believe that each penny that we bring together is used in an important way, we are intentional about giving to people and groups outside of our community where we see the God working. We are committed to share at least 10% with organizations that fit into our philosophy of giving and philosophy of generosity that you see below.

The Well’s Philosophy of Generosity

We believe in living lifestyles of generosity.  Our belief stems from our core value that we are loved by God and are called to love Him and love others.  We believe God has supplied all our needs, entrusting us with the care of His creation.  We believe in charitably and joyfully giving of ourselves, our talents, our weaknesses, our finances, and our time.  We believe in a God whose vision is greater than our ability to ask or imagine — our desire is to join Him wherever He leads.

The Well’s Philosophy of Giving

We believe God has ordained generous lifestyles.  Throughout the Old Testament, ten percent of an individual or community’s income was set aside and given to God, the Giver of all good things.  As New Testament believers, we are called to give cheerfully and generously.  At The Well, our desire is to continue the traditional practice of tithing by giving ten percent of our yearly budget to organizations, individuals, places, and other external endeavors which reflect our mission and vision to further take part in being the hands and feet of Jesus to Feasterville, Bucks County, Philadelphia, and the World.
