By Faith: 2006

In the Bible, Hebrews chapter 11 tells the stories of faithful men and women of faith who have gone before us.  Their stores of faith, seen most clearly in their actions, are meant to inspire us follow their example and live as a community that exists to be blessed and be a blessing to others.

Here at The Well, with these stories as our inspiration, God continues the story that is told in Hebrews 11…

In 2006…

By faith, the people of The Well tried to their best to embody the love and hope of Jesus Christ in their homes, places of work, places of leisure and everywhere they went.  By faith, they trusted that God would use them to embody and tell of the hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

By faith, The Well was a host venue for the Invisible Children National Tour Screening.  Over 60 people viewed this documentary that told of the atrocities that were taking place in Uganda.  By faith, a check was sent for $500 toward the cause from the generosity of those who viewed the documentary.

By faith, in April over 30 people from The Well braved the cold and “slept” outside in Independence National Park (near the Liberty Bell) to support and bring awareness to the Invisible Children cause.

By faith, Gabrielle Piccari started and led a six-week Bible study for handicapped young adults in from the Philadelphia Suburbs knowing that the handicapped are an often-overlooked group in our culture.

By faith, seven people from The Well headed over to the Levittown Homeless Shelter and organized their stockroom for a day.

By faith, Renae Bartelomeo brought before our community a Spanish-speaking mother who was in desperate need of clothing for her two young children.  By faith, people from The Well responded to this need by generously purchasing ten outfits for each child.  By faith Renae, who speaks Spanish, has built a friendship with this family and continues to embody and share the Gospel with them.

By faith, our social workers have brought before The Well countless needs in the Philadelphia area that we have had the privilege of meeting with the love of Christ and the hope of the gospel.

By faith, Melanie Hiestand and Shanna Cummings have been humbly helping out at the Salvation Army in Philadelphia by being a support to Samantha Mozdzanowski.  By faith they have served there in person as well as committed to praying with and for Samantha on a weekly basis.

By faith, Beth Wood and Melanie Hiestand helped organize the Fall Festival that gave us the opportunity to bring homeless mothers and children from the city to The Well where they were able to share the love of Jesus and get away from the struggles of daily life for an afternoon.

By faith, Samantha Mozdzanowski helped organize a group who helped put on a Christmas Party at the Salvation Army for the residents there.  By faith, many people from The Well generously provided gifts for this party.

By faith, The Well hired Beth Wood as its first Children’s Ministry Coordinator; trusting that God highly values children and believing that Beth’s leadership would benefit our commitment to unifying parents, teachers, and community members in rearing children who follow Jesus.

By faith, Drew Breder led a team (Dan Dauengbaugh, Michelle McCafferty, Chrissy Pappas and Brooke Davis)  in helping The Well contribute to the local community by establishing The Well as a high quality concert venue in the Bucks County Area.

By faith, Kim O’Donnell and “Woody” helped grow a community of artists and organize three excellent art shows; including a hugely successful Fashion/Art Show that will be talked about for years to come.

By faith, The Well was able to use its space to bless its neighbors by hosting the School of Rock Concerts.  The School of Rock is a positive after school program for kids in the Philadelphia Suburbs.

By faith, Todd and Melanie Hiestand followed God’s call to begin the process of adopting a child from Guatemala.  By faith, as a community, The Well compassionately supported and helped in making this become reality in 2007.

By faith, thirteen people headed down to New Orleans to serve as volunteers with Samaritan’s Purse to help out with hurricane relief efforts.  By faith, Tom Daniels, Gary Alloway, Gabrielle Piccari and Jeremy Walter volunteered to help a move and open a refrigerator that had been unplugged for eight months!

By faith, instead of taking a vacation, Gabrielle Piccari and Michael Calderon took a week in December to represent The Well in New Orleans and serve with Samaritan’s Purse again.

By faith, Anthony Piccari and Jasmine Murphy were baptized in front of many friends and family to demonstrate their understanding of God’s grace and their commitment to the kingdom of God.

By faith, Beth Morgan ended her battle with cancer and went home to be with the Lord.  By faith, the Morgan family continues to love and serve as Beth so excellently modeled throughout her life.

By faith, just weeks before she died, Beth Morgan organized a wonderful and very successful Vacation Bible School with Cornerstone Church, a local African Church in Levittown.  By faith, many people from The Well volunteered to share the grace of Jesus with over 60 crazy kids that week.

By faith, we extended the offer to Gary Alloway to continue serving with us during his seminary training at Princeton Theological Seminary.  By faith, he chose to accept this call and has helped us work out how to be a church that emphasizes the grace and hope of the Gospel.

By faith, we accepted David Congdon as an intern from Princeton Theological Seminary for 2006 and 2007.  By faith, David has used his gifts to lead our community into thinking more carefully and deeply about God and what it means to be the church in our culture.

By faith, Michelle Kelly has compassionately and faithfully shown the grace of God to a local family from Feasterville as they manage many difficult and unfortunate challenges.

By faith, knowing there are no easy answers, we have been working through how we can be shaped by prayer and scripture as a community.  Trusting the Spirit’s leading as we pursue Him individually within the context of community.

By faith, trusting that God was truly at work in and amongst our community, the Altman family from Seattle generously shared over $10,000 toward our 2006 budget.

By faith, The Well formed a Ministry Leadership Team where leaders from the community have served together to help keep The Well in step with the Spirit’s leading.

By faith, Brad and Stacy Jackson served The Well for over nine years.  By faith, Brad served as Lead Pastor, leading the church through many different trials and joys. By faith, Brad and the leadership laid the groundwork for The Well to be the church it is today.  By faith, with sadness and joy we said good-bye to the Jackson family as they followed God’s call to Minnesota.

By faith, Todd Hiestand and Phil Wood serve together as the pastors/elders of The Well.

By faith, Todd Hiestand has served as the voice, visionary, and spiritual exhorter of the community.  As a pastor of The Well, he is dedicated to helping the people of the church love God and be a blessing to the world.

By faith, Phil Wood has dedicated all that he is to faithfully guiding the community in worship.  Phil’s servant’s heart, wisdom, and leadership are reflective of the Spirit’s active work at The Well.

By faith, people have generously given money, time, and prayer in order to live faithfully as men and women who seek to follow Christ’s example.  Knowing that, by faith, anything we have been apart of in 2006 is God’s grace working in us.

It would be impossible to chronicle all the acts of faith that happened in secret, anonymously amidst the daily life of this community.  By faith, people from The Well have loved when it has been easy and have loved when it has been hard.  By faith, they have sacrificed for the sake of others.  By faith, they have given out of abundance and given out of little.  By faith, they have generously shared meals with strangers and shared meals with long-time friends.  By faith, they have fearlessly shared their faith in Jesus when asked and have had to ask forgiveness when opportunities have been missed.

By faith, the people of The Well have sought to do our best to live out our commitment to follow Jesus with all of our lives…

By faith, we enter into 2007 and beyond, knowing that God will be faithful to finish the work that He has started in this community, and in each of our lives, as we seek to humbly follow Jesus and be a blessing to the world…
