This Sunday our theme for preaching and teaching will be “Educational Formation”. We will consider how practices like reading, reflection, discussion and study are used by God to fit us for life in the Kingdom.

Here are some quotes to get you thinking. We also encourage you to reflect on our texts for the week which Acts 2:42-47 and Romans 12:1-2.

“If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skull, why the do we read it?”
-Kafka

“The opening page of the Christian text for living, the Bible, tells us that the entire cosmos and every living creature was brought into being by words. St. John selects the term “Word” to account, first and last, for what is most characteristic about Jesus, the person at the revealed and revealing center of the Christian story. Language, spoken and written, is the primary means for getting us in on what is, on what God is and is doing. But it is language of a certain stripe, not words external to our lives, the sort used in grocery lists, computer manuals, French grammars, and basketball rulebooks. These are words intended, whether confrontationally or obliquely, to get inside us, to deal with our souls, to form a life that is congruent with the world that God has created.”
- Eugene Peterson, Eat This Book: A Conversation In The Art Of Spiritual reading.

News & Notes

Prayer: Bob Wood, Phil and Woody’s dad, is having open heart surgery today (Friday) to remove some blockage the doctor’s found earlier this week. Please be in prayer for the surgery and the recovery.

Todd Preaching at Bristol on Sunday: Todd Hiestand is preaching at our church plant in Bristol this evening. If you haven’t visited this community, or want to again, tonight is a great opportunity. If you need directions or info just talk to Todd.

Pints and Ponderings Next Tuesday
An open discussion on some topic of theology at Manny Brown’s at Neshaminy Mall. Open to anyone over the age of 21. Next meeting is THIS WEEK Tuesday, July 13 at 7:30pm. Questions? Contact toddh@thewellpa.com

This Sunday at The Well

The topic for this Sunday’s service is Missional Formation. The sermon texts are John 17:11, 13-26 and Ephesians 4:1-16. I encourage you to read of those passages before the service. As you do, note any correlations that you see between them (e.g., the theme of unity). Here are some questions to stimulate your thinking as you prepare for this Sunday’s service: We often talk about being formed for mission, but how have you been formed through mission? In what ways are you “in the world”? What has your growth in Christ looked like over the past few months and what role did your participation in mission play in that growth? – Matt Warren (preacher this weekend).

Events This Weekend

Fundraiser Concert Tomorrow Night
6 Bands will be playing at The Well from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. Suggested donation is $10 and all proceeds go to The Well’s trip to Guatemala. Bands: Cate Obert, Tommy Mosca, Justin Phillippi, Latebloom, Counter Riot, The Violent Tone.

The Caperelli Pub Night
If you don’t plan to attend the concert, please consider visiting the Caperellis’ Pub Night in Doylestown. This is a fundraiser for Vince’s airfare to Guatemala (he’s shooting video for Lemonade International as part of our missions trip). Suggested donation is $10 per person. Open house style. Rsvp preferred. Kids welcome before 8:30. Call BJ and Vince with questions or for directions: 215-489-2082.
