In case you haven’t heard, we will be worshipping with two hispanic churches from Lower Bucks County. The entire service will be translated in both English and Spanish We’ll have music led in english by Phil and The Well’s band as well as music in Spanish led by the bands from the hispanic churches. We’ve also invited these two churches to share lunch with us after church.

There are a lot of unknowns when we engage in something like this. Our two communities come from very different places and perspectives. I am not sure how many members of the other churches will be there and how many kids they will bring with them. It will probably be a bit of controlled chaos on Sunday morning!

But, despite all our differences, we have the opportunity to bring together two worlds that rarely interact. If you pay attention to the demographics of Lower Bucks County you’ll realize that there are about 20,000 hispanic people living in our area. And, if you pay attention on another level you’ll realize that our two communities rarely interact. On Sunday, we have the opportunity to take a step in seeing two worlds come together in and through the name of Jesus Christ. In our study of Romans this year, Paul was adamant that unity in the body of Christ was an essential working out of the gospel. This weekend, we get to continue the journey of living that out!

So I want to encourage you, bring your most hospitable self on Sunday morning. I hope that we can humbly treat our visitors as more important than ourselves! Even if you speak less spanish than me, do your best to interact and show love to the guests who are entering into our home. Also, as I said we’re not sure how many kids will be joining us. We may need some people to be prepared to jump in and provide some support to our regular Sunday school teachers!

On a side note, when it comes to seating on Sunday morning, let’s work hard to not have there be the hispanic section and The Well section. People naturally sit near people like them, but this week, take a risk and place yourself in a row and worship alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ.

For the meal afterwards, we’ve invited them to bring meals to share. We invite you to do the same as we do whenever we share a lunch together. Please bring a main dish and a side dish to share. We’ll have plenty of table set up to plug in crock pots.

Finally, please pray. Please pray that this Sunday would be a small step on a long journey of seeing the church come together as one in the name of Jesus Christ. Please pray that friendship and love will be the motivations. Please pray that the name of Jesus will be glorified above all things through our time together. Please pray that our time on Sunday would truly be a small taste of heaven on earth.

Looking forward to an awesome sunday of serving!

Todd Hiestand

This Sunday our theme for preaching and teaching will be “Educational Formation”. We will consider how practices like reading, reflection, discussion and study are used by God to fit us for life in the Kingdom.

Here are some quotes to get you thinking. We also encourage you to reflect on our texts for the week which Acts 2:42-47 and Romans 12:1-2.

“If the book we are reading does not wake us, as with a fist hammering on our skull, why the do we read it?”

“The opening page of the Christian text for living, the Bible, tells us that the entire cosmos and every living creature was brought into being by words. St. John selects the term “Word” to account, first and last, for what is most characteristic about Jesus, the person at the revealed and revealing center of the Christian story. Language, spoken and written, is the primary means for getting us in on what is, on what God is and is doing. But it is language of a certain stripe, not words external to our lives, the sort used in grocery lists, computer manuals, French grammars, and basketball rulebooks. These are words intended, whether confrontationally or obliquely, to get inside us, to deal with our souls, to form a life that is congruent with the world that God has created.”
